Pretty Little Details
From the ATKG archives: I wrote this during the early days of All Things KayGee. I’m sharing the original story and photos as part of my 2026 relaunch, with references that reflect that earlier chapter.

Finding Confidence Through Fashion
Sometimes a girl just wants to feel pretty. I struggled with feeling pretty well into my twenties. Growing up, I was teased and called ugly because I was dark-skinned. Looking back, it’s a bit funny because some of the ones that were teasing and name calling were just as dark me. And as much as I hate to admit it, this really broke me down. This is where my love for fashion began. My mom would take me shopping in vintage and thrift stores and malls in different cities. I used my clothes to give me that “pretty” feeling and I felt that if my face and skin weren’t pretty enough at least my clothes would be. Ohhhh! The mind of a teenager ha, ha! By the grace of God I got over that complex… but it took some time. But don’t worry that post is on it’s way.

perfect date night spot… check out their awesome menu! (excuse the excited photobombers, ha!)
Pink Pleated Dress
With age I have learned to love myself, flaws and all! No Matter What! With self-love it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of you. It took a lot of time to get to this point, but it is a wonderful feeling. Nothing makes me feel prettier than a few pretty little details. I have never gotten as many compliments on a single outfit as I did with this dress. This dress has it all… a little bit of lace, a few pleats, sugar, spice, and everything nice! I absolutely love how comfy this dress is.

Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone
About stepping out of my comfort zone… How about these crocheted Senegalese Twists?!? This is the first time in my entire 30-something years of life having any type of “braids”. I always felt like they didn’t fit well with my face. Well, I decided to give them a try now that I am outside in the heat more than normal… I love them! So, I’ll be the first to admit it is nice to try something new every once in a while.
XO, KayGee
